Mid Evening Update: Strong to severe storms closing in on SE WI
NEXT:

Updated: Sunday, July 14th 8:15pm:

Clusters of strong to severe storms are meandering east at about 30 mph this evening. Some have perked up to severe limits from time to time. They're producing copious amounts of rain on already saturated ground. Madison picked up over 2" of rain in the last hour from one storm alone.

These storms will continue to congeal together as they move east over the next few hours, continuing to pose a damaging wind, hail, and flash flooding threat. Storms will reach the lakefront closer to 10pm.

Updated: Sunday, July 14th 6:20pm:

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 1am for Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Waukesha, Walworth, Dodge, and Jefferson counties.

Storms have started to develop in SW WI and are moving east into an environment that is prime to fuel storms.

Storms will continue to develop and expand in coverage through the evening. These clusters of storms will have the potential for damaging winds, hail, and flooding.

Additional strong to severe storms are expected Monday.

Updated: Sunday, July 14th 2:30pm:

Our atmosphere has been slowly recovering after the morning round of rain and storms with temps in the mid 80s, feeling like the upper 80s to low 90s in spots.

We'll have a few more hours of destabilization this afternoon ahead of a disturbance moving in from the west. This will likely trigger scattered storms in SW WI between 3-6pm with clusters of storms mainly impacting SE WI between 7pm-12am.

Given the heat and humidity, storms have a good chance at being strong to severe. Areas south of I-94 remain under a level 2, Slight Risk, while a level 1, Marginal Risk, is in place everywhere else. Damaging winds, hail, and flooding are the main concerns with storms this evening.

While we'll quiet down overnight, another round or two of severe storms is expected Monday afternoon or evening. The timing is a bit uncertain, but areas near the IL border have been upgraded to a level 3, Enhance Risk, for severe storms on Monday. Main concern is a squall line producing winds of 70-75 mph or greater. The big question is will this track across southern WI or northern Illinois.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58)--Round one of several on the way the next day or so came through late Saturday evening with a bang.  Frequent lightning and heavy rains were evident for some.  On Sunday, there's a chance we could see several more rounds, including mid-morning and late day/evening.  Any of these could be strong to severe.  Monday, for the start of the Republican National Convention, we see the same kind of weather pattern playing out.  I think the best chance of storms, some strong to severe, will be into the evening.  And then behind a cold front, it gets so much better.  Big time relief with the temperatures and humidity.  We're talking 70s for highs and 50s for lows most of the coming week.

Slight Risk of Severe Weather Both Sunday & Monday...

Big humidity drop starting on Tuesday...

Perhaps another Heat Advisory could be issued for Monday...

Better weather coming...
