Student who police say brought loaded gun to Indian Trail High School in court
KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The 16-year-old student who police say brought a loaded gun to Indian Trail High School appeared in the Kenosha County Courthouse over Zoom on Thursday, Dec. 5.
The student is charged with one count of terrorist threats, possession of a firearm on school grounds, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor.
This comes as the student was searched Monday, after a photo of a gun circulated on snapchat.
"This is a very serious offense involving a loaded handgun at school," said Kelly Birschbach, the assistant district attorney. "A snapchat video that was sent out that caused fear and anxiety in students not only at Indian Trail, but Bradford High School as well.”
Kenosha police did not find the gun during their initial search, but later found it on the teen when he was detained.
With two-gun scares within Kenosha County schools in less than 30 days, the judge says this case is being taken very seriously.
“These allegations are extremely serious," said Judge Lisa Bouterse. "I'm concerned for the safety of this young man and the safety of the community.”
With safety concerns for the teen and the community, he will be held in the Sheboygan Juvenile Detention Center until his waiver petition hearing next month.
