KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Kenosha Unified School District sent a letter to families Tuesday, after learning that a gun was found on a student at Indian Trail.

According to the Kenosha Police Department, a 16-year-old student was searched following information that a Snapchat photograph with a gun was circulating. Police say the student was arrested at the school and taken to the police department.

Kenosha officers did not find the weapon during their initial search. However, a weapon was located on the student after the student was detained and processed through juvenile intake.

“You know, you hate to think of them going through metal detectors, but whatever it takes to be safe," said Diana Palinca, a KUSD grandparent. "You send them off to school hoping that everything will go well and get a good education. So, it’s scary.”

On Wednesday, police said the student was charged with one count of terrorist threats, possession of a firearm on school grounds, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor.

Police say the student is currently detained in a juvenile detention facility awaiting the next court hearing.

The district says Kenosha police are reviewing the incident and evaluating whether procedures used by their officers were performed in accordance with training standards.
