Students and parents attend MPS meetings focused on the Facilities Master Plan

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Parents and students at Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) once again gathered today in hopes of learning more about the future of their schools.

The district is holding a series of town halls this week, all centering around their "Facilities Master Plan."

It's a plan that could see several schools close in the next few years. However, it is not clear which schools could be affected.

But consultants brought in by MPS to come up with their plan say any final decisions will be made carefully, and with collaboration with the community.

"Today is a really important part for us to really think through how to make those decisions, the community voice is critical in this process. So, we want to make sure that we're sharing our initial thinking on process, but more importantly have a conversation with stakeholders," said Patrick Davis, principal, Perkins Eastman.

MPS is still gathering both data and feedback.

But the result will likely be a list of schools that will be phased out over the next five to 10 years.

The district is holding one more in-person town hall meeting tomorrow night.

Two virtual meetings are scheduled for Monday, Oct. 7. To register for those, go to mpsmke.com/mpsspsc.
