MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The holidays are right around the corner and the spirit of giving has already started. In Menomonee Falls, students are making efforts to stop their local food pantry. The food drive took place Saturday, Nov. 4.
Food pantries are a vital part of our communities, especially around this time of year, but they don't stock themselves. That's why ahead of the holiday, students at Menomonee Falls High School are holding a drive to collect donations.
Reese McLaughlin started the Give Thanks Food Drive four years ago. She says seeing the impact it had on the community is what has kept it going.
Food donated in Saturday's drive will go directly to those in need.
McLaughlin says the first year of the drive was just a way to get volunteer hours, but it's now an annual event that many look forward to and donations grow each year.
Donations needed include unexpired and non-perishable food times.
Cereal is a specific request, along with apple sauce, canned chicken, and much more.
If you missed out on Saturday's drive, you can still make a donation to the falls area food pantry this month.
