Students learn fire safety skills at Milwaukee's Survive Alive House
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- There was smoke at Milwaukee's Survive Alive House on the south side Monday morning, as part of a simulation teaching kids about the dangers of fires and how to escape them.
Monday marks the kick-off of National Fire Prevention Week, and Milwaukee's mayor joined fire officials and a group of students.
The fire department does this every year, and Chief Aaron Lipski says it's an important chance for them to promote their message about fire safety.
"We have rescued so many people, just over the course of the last year, from the scourge of fire," Lipski said. "That makes me proud that we're so capable and willing and courageous to go and do that. But the best rescue we are ever gonna have is the one we don't have to make."
One point of emphasis at Monday's event was the safe charging of phones and other electronic devices.
