Thousands of people are expected to make their way in, ready to kick off the first of three weekends of live music. With more than 600 artists set to take the stage, there's something for every kind of music fan.

But opening day isn't just about the shows -- it's about the start of another Milwaukee summer tradition. For some, the first day of Summerfest is a tradition that goes back years. For others, it's a first-time experience they didn't want to miss.

"Every year I come I get a pin," said Summerfest attendee Rick Klimo. "And I've got pins on this hat since 1989 when they first started giving out pins. One of the main reasons I come down here is to get a pin, enjoy the music and the food."

Guests will also get to enjoy some experiences every day of the festival.

This year's immersive art exhibit is called "Radiant Echoes." You can enjoy an experience made for the kids at the Lil Gig, the Miller Lite Brewhouse will once again be a hot spot for those looking to grab a beverage, and the Pickleball Village will make its return.

This year, the country-themed Lasso Lounge is also back. And the Summerville Stage by Johnsonville has a special focus on Wisconsin-based artists. We spoke with Jennifer Myers, chief marketing officer for Kunes Auto Group and Fiona Redhair, the chief sausage correspondent for Johnsonville.

One of the places you'll want to check out is the Northwestern Mutual Community Park, located near the middle of the grounds. We spoke with Steve Radke, president of the Northwestern Mutual Foundation, to learn more about the park.

Summerfest gates open at noon every day and shows run through midnight. The festival runs through July 4.
