MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In the final hours of Summerfest 2024, attendees took in the last time they’ll see musical acts at Henry Maier Festival Park for the year.

For some people, Summerfest was the only place they wanted to be.

“It’s a nice way to just relax. Always run into somebody I haven’t seen in years, so very, very enjoyable,” said Skip Pemper, a Summerfest attendee.

Pemper has been attending Summerfest for over 40 years and he’s not the only one who’s made this festival a lifelong tradition.

“Today is my last day in the states before I go to Paris for the Olympics to work in the village as a volunteer,” said Amanda Emran.

Emran says spending the day with friends and family listening to live music was the only way she wanted to spend her last day.

“I go every year. I try to go 9 days, every day. This year that didn’t work out because I was preparing to go overseas. I did. I made it my last day here and I’m pumped to see neon trees tonight,” said Emran.

Pemper says Summerfest is a Milwaukee staple. This year, though, a handful of days didn’t have the best weather.

“I wish we had another week or so. Much much, too fast and I’m sure the rain didn’t help either,” said Pemper. “I’d like to see us go back to the old way; you know. 11 days in a row but that’s just my personal opinion."

Pemper says while three weekends simply isn’t enough, he can’t imagine spending the time he does get anywhere else.

“It’s the last day. And we won’t see Summerfest again till next year. Had to come and it’s a beautiful day and you can’t beat it,” said Pemper.
