Teen in custody after battery involving 8-year-old at Milwaukee school
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — A 13-year-old is in custody after Milwaukee police said they were involved in a physical incident with another student Thursday afternoon.
Officials said they responded to a battery at Ralph H. Metcalfe Neighborhood School at noon, where an 8-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
But the school's principal sent out an email to families and staff that said there was a "situation" at school, where "a student needed medical assistance after hitting their head on a doorframe while trying to enter a classroom and being stopped by another student."
The email said school officials called paramedics and are now taking "appropriate disciplinary action" as the investigation continues.
“It's a good staff, it's a good team in there, they trying hard, but unfortunately, things like this just make it very uncomfortable," said parent Krystal Standley. “It's very unfortunate to see children, you know, because regardless, both of those are babies. I do give my condolences to both, so, yeah.”
Charges are pending for the 13-year-old with the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
Officials have not provided an update on the 8-year-old's condition.
