MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Two talented teenagers from the Milwaukee High School of the Arts (MHSA) have something to sing about these days.

In fact, that's one of the things they do really well -- sing. So well, they've just won national awards.

"Really a prestigious honor," said Raymond Roberts, choral director at the school. "It's kind of like Grammy awards for jazz in the educational world."

He's talking about Lex V. Crump and Amiracle Evans.

Crump just graduated from MHSA, and Evans is a senior. They both just learned they won awards during the 49th Annual DownBeat Student Music competition.

"Sounds corny, but I was jumping for joy in my little dorm in Nashville, Tennessee when he told me, and I was also excited for Amiracle as well," Crump said.

"I was going around so happy, very oddly. Everybody was asking me what happened. I said no, I'm just having a really good day," Evans said.

"They have extraordinary natural, beautiful, naturally beautiful instruments," Roberts said. "But beyond that, just who they are as humans just shapes and informs their performance."
