MILWAUKEE COUNTY (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors Chairman Theo Lipscomb announced his candidacy for Milwaukee County Executive at Sprecher Brewing Company on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Lipscomb has been county board chairman since 2008.
The role of the county executive is to be the chief executive officer of the county.
Current County Executive Chris Abele, announced last month, he would not be seeking re-election. He's held the position since 2011.
Others who are running include clerical specialist in the Milwaukee County Clerk of Circuit Court, Peggy Wittman, 17th District State Rep. David Crowley, Glendale Mayor Brian Kennedy and 7th District State Senator Chris Larson.
Lipscomb said at the news conference on Wednesday, he has the experience needed for the job.
“I think I bring a different experience to the race obviously serving as county board chairman I’ve been very involved in our budgets over the years. I know the field has other electeds others in it but they have not been focused on county government. This is what I’ve been dedicated to. Obviously, I’m a non-partisan elected officials. I’m moderate and able to work with both sides,” said Lipscomb.
When asked how he may endorse, Abele said he wasn't endorsing anyone yet but said he wanted someone with management experience and also not someone who plans to use the position as a political stepping stone.
