'They care about us': Shoppers show out for Small Business Saturday
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Historic Third Ward in Milwaukee was one of many across the nation participating in Small Business Saturday.
"Supporting local just means so much because it's just real neighbors and we are here to support one another," said Lisa Rambol the owner of The District Row.
It's the season to secure holiday deals, while showing love to local businesses on Small Business Saturday.
"Even previously as a shopper I loved it," said Rambol. "Just being able to see, touch, feel, meet with neighbors and really open our doors to our neighbors."
In a time where relying on big corporations and online shopping is all too easy, local business owners say they are grateful to see a steady flow of shoppers.
"Kinda thankful that people actually care, they care about us," said Fred Gillich, the owner of 414 Milwaukee. "In other words, they spend their hard earned locally and that means a lot because that sustains local economies. So, I get to like make some money here and then if I need something over there, I get to put it back in the local economy. So, we kind of depend on each other."
Shoppers saying staying local provides an unbeatable experience beyond the screen.
"You can meet someone that handmade something or put their time and energy into that," said shopper, Jenna Washuleski. "It just boosts our economy to have these businesses."
Because for these mom-and-pop shops, every purchase matters.
"I feel like that’s the highest praise, when someone can actually like what you do and then they prove it by spending money with you," said Gillich.
If you missed small business Saturday, businesses in the Historic Third Ward will have multiple holiday sales and giveaways leading up to Christmas.
