6pm Update: Last winter weekend will make itself known with a very active forecast

6pm Update:

The forecast still holds as of now.  Our Wind Advisory looks to expire in the next hour as winds should ease through tonight.  A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued goes into effect for our northern counties from 7pm Saturday - 10am Sunday for the first round of snow and mixed showers.

No active watches, warnings, or advisories throughout the day on Sunday!

Ahead of that snow Sunday night, our southeast most counties are under a Level 1/5 risk for severe thunderstorms.  As those storms turn to mixed showers, and then eventually heavy snow, a Winter Storm Watch goes into effect for all of us at 4pm and will expire at 7pm Monday.

Timeline:

4pm Update: The High Wind warning is over but a Wind Advisory is now in place until 7pm. Gusts are still over 50mph but will come down considerable this evening.

1pm Update:

Here's the latest information for the weekend/Monday system impacting the area. The storm track has taken a jog north. That ultimately cuts into snow totals. We expect this storm to do some wobbling north/south right into the weekend so that means we all need to anticipate continued adjustments to totals. The leading nose of snow working in for Saturday night now misses most of the area. That takes a few inches out of the snowfall forecast

As you can see from this image at 4pm Sunday, much of the area is under the rain and mix shield. With the snow line shifting north, this will continue to drive down snow totals. However, we will not be able to escape the backside of this storm. And that means widespread snow is still in the forecast. It may just lag until around 10pm Sunday night for places like Milwaukee.

For the remainder of the duration of the storm we then track only snow. Your morning commute on Monday will be a snowy one! Winds will be sustained around 20mph with gusts around 40 mph and temps will hover around 20 degrees but feel like the single-digits. This set up will bring major travel challenges with greatly reduced visibility, along with slick and snow covered roads. This is the latest forecast for snow totals:

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58)--March may have come in like a lamb, but this last weekend of winter will be anything but. First things first.  The wind machine will be in full force on Friday.  A High Wind Warning is in place until 4 PM.  Gusts between 50 and 60 mph are possible. Some wintry mix is possible too the first part of the day.  Then, we shift our focus to some snow later in the day on Saturday into Saturday night.  Any snow becomes more of a mix or just plain rain into Sunday.  Accumulations won't be overly impressive around the metro area.  Could be a few inches for the northern tier. We'll see the rain switch to snow by Sunday night.  It'll continue through much of Monday.  A Winter Storm Watch is in place from 7 PM Saturday until 4 PM Monday. The wind will increase for Monday.  Blizzardlike conditions are possible then. Stay tuned to CBS 58 on air and online for the latest weather information throughout the weekend.
