MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- On Tuesday, Feb. 20, voters will weigh in on several local primary races and consider ballot issues.

Leadership positions in several major cities are at stake, as is millions of dollars in new tax revenue for many school districts.

The largest race in terms of size will be in Kenosha.

Nine candidates are competing to replace longtime mayor John Antaramian, who is retiring after his second stint in office. Tuesday's primary will winnow the field of nine down to the top two. They'll square off April 2 for the mayor's seat.

Milwaukee also has a nonpartisan primary election for mayor, though incumbent Cavalier Johnson's strong standing has largely eliminated any potential drama.

Johnson is being challenged by Ieshuh Griffin and David King. Tuesday will trim the field from three to two.

Johnson won a special election in 2022 to replace former Mayor Tom Barrett. This April, Johnson is expected to overwhelmingly win his first four-year term in office.

Ieshuh Griffin is also running for Milwaukee County executive against incumbent David Crowley. But that race, too, is expected to have little drama with Crowley heavily favored to win re-election.

Since he and Griffin are the only two candidates, the primary was cancelled. Voters will choose between the two in April.

And several school districts have referenda on the ballot Tuesday. Voters in the Waterford Union High School district will consider two funding questions that total $91 million for building repairs and expanded athletics facilities.

And in Burlington, the school district is asking voters for $11 million over the next four years to maintain student programs and teacher support.

Polls open Tuesday at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Everyone in line at 8 p.m. will get to vote.

A photo ID is needed to vote, and proof of residence if you're registering at the polls.
