MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Friday, Oct. 28th, A local non-profit kicked off their grass roots efforts to bolster the Black voter turnout come midterm elections.
The event took place at Red Arrow Park. The free concert was "Turn Up the Vote".
Music played, children danced, and vendors lined the parks sidewalk.
There was even opportunity to register and early vote.
The mission of the event was to encourage young Black voters to hit the polls this November.
"Come out, understand your power, get back into the system, get back into the process. They are our future; they are going to be making decisions for us rather
"We like it or not," said Gregory Lewis, executive director of Souls to the Polls.
They say the power of the Black vote is key to affordable housing, education and economic development
"We are trying to build a block of voters so that when things come up, we can pull together and make sure we put people in place who will look out for our interest," said Lewis.
Midterm elections take place Tuesday Nov. 8.
