Two critically injured in Cedarburg shed explosion

CEDARBURG, Wis. (CBS 58) — Two people suffered critical injuries after an explosion destroyed a shed in Cedarburg on Saturday morning.

According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office, multiple 911 calls were received shortly after 11:45 a.m. reporting an explosion near Brandt Drive and Royal Oak Road. Callers also reported a fire with heavy black smoke coming from the area.

When deputies arrived, they found two Cedarburg men, ages 54 and 82, with critical injuries. Both were transported to Ascension Columbia St. Mary's Regional Burn Center in Milwaukee for treatment.

A dog injured in the explosion was taken to a local animal hospital.

Authorities said the explosion occurred in a metal outbuilding, which was destroyed in the blast and is considered a total loss.

Investigators have not determined what caused the explosion.

The incident remains under investigation.
