MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 5-year-old child and 37-year-old man are hurt following a shooting that happened near 10th Street and Abert Place Friday night, March 24.

A 37-year-old Milwaukee man, who police say was shot while driving, was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

The other victim, 5-year-old boy, was shot while inside his residence. Family identified him as Devontea Walton. His mother, Debbie Davis, said they were at home watching TV when bullets pierced their home and Walton's left eye was grazed. She said she's lucky her son is alive. Walton has since been recovering at home.

"If my baby would've been any closer to the TV, I wouldn't have had my baby. It would've went through, instead of his eye, it would've went through his skull," said Davis.

The bullet was recovered in the family couch.

Milwaukee police said so far this year, six juveniles ranging in age from 2 to 17 have been killed in shootings, 24 others were hurt.

Walton's grandmother, Rochelle Jackson, said she's shocked at how violent her community has become.

"It's sad that we can't even sit in the living room anymore and watch TV," said Jackson.

Walton's mother is pleading with her community to put the guns down.

"Just stop shooting. Put your guns down," said Davis.

Police said they continue to seek unknown suspects. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Milwaukee police at (414) 935-7360, or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (414)224-Tips or P3 Tips.
