Uvalde nonprofit rescinds grant awarded to Roosevelt Elementary School, citing suspect's previous 'red flags'
KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A $5,000 grant awarded to Roosevelt Elementary School for their response to a school threat has been rescinded.
The grant originally came from One in Five, a student violence prevention nonprofit from Uvalde, Texas. The nonprofit rescinded the grant after law enforcement said the teenage suspect showed red flags prior to the incident.
In a press release, One in Five's national director, Daniel Chapin, said in part, "A key question here now is - Why did the school and district not intervene previous to this incident? And, further, why did reports investigated about this student with previous air soft guns and maps of a district school not flag him for advanced intervention?"
A spokesperson for the Kenosha Unified School District told CBS 58 they're saddened to know the grant is being revoked due to "inaccurate information."
They said previous concerns over airsoft guns were investigated, and if any threat had been made, law enforcement would have been immediately contacted.
The district representative also said the Roosevelt staff demonstrated extraordinary bravery and deserve recognition.
