UW-Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Chancellor Mark Mone announced the date of his resignation in a letter to the UWM community on Wednesday, July 3.

Mone will step down from his role and return to teaching at the Lubar College of Business effective July 1, 2025 after having served as chancellor at UWM for nearly 11 years, the second-longest tenure in the school's history.

He cited the need for round-the-clock attention to the role and the desire for a smooth leadership transition as reasons for his departure.

Mone also celebrated the achievements UWM has seen during his tenure, including attaining Carnegie R1 status in 2016, securing record philanthropic support, overseeing the improvement of facilities and partnerships with technical colleges and companies such as Microsoft and Titletown Tech.

"I deeply appreciate the tremendous support you have provided in good times and throughout the challenges," Mone stated.

The next chancellor has not yet been named but Mone noted that the school " ... will continue our path of fiscal management and prepare the campus for my successor."
