UWM seeking donations to benefit and sustain Lifelong Learning Institute

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is currently hosting its Fall Giving Campaign, seeking donations to support its Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. This initiative, with proceeds going towards providing educational opportunities to adults over 50, will continue through Thursday, Nov. 23.

The campaign focuses on enhancing the institute's offerings, including improved technology for online learning and more accessible classroom environments.

Established with support from philanthropist Bernard Osher, the institute has been part of UWM since 2007. It offers a range of classes and enrichment activities designed for mature adults, aiming to foster lifelong learning and community engagement. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is one of 125 similar institutes across the nation, partially funded by the Osher Foundation.

Recent contributions have significantly impacted the institute's capability to deliver quality education, facilitating upgrades in technology, allowing members to participate in classes remotely. This year's funds are allocated towards acquiring assistive hearing devices, tables for learning during lectures and improved cameras for online streaming.

Contributions can be made to either the Osher Legacy Fund, supporting long-term growth and outreach, or the Osher General Fund, which aids in covering operational costs and maintaining high-quality educational programming.
