MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - The Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) Honor Guard is making sure they have everything in place for Officer Kendall Corder’s funeral.
Kendall Corder died on Sunday, June 29, after being shot near the intersection of 25th and Garfield on Thursday night.
“We want to represent the department, the chief, the city and ultimately our profession on what’s probably going to be a national stage,” MPD Honor Commander Paul Graczyk said.
Graczyk says that one member of the Honor Guard was close with Corder and will be part of the funeral ceremony next week.
“He wants to honor him this way and we’re monitoring him and keeping an eye on him to make sure everything is good,” Graczyk said.
The Honor Guard practiced for eight hours on Thursday, July 3, and will meet several times before Corder’s funeral, which is scheduled for July 11.
“The training itself is important, but the hardest part is controlling your emotions and making sure that you are that rock for the family,” Graczyk said.
