Vehicle shot on freeway following road rage incident in Mequon, suspect arrested

OZAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Authorities are investigating a shooting that happened on I-43 northbound -- north of County Highway W -- in the city of Mequon. 

The incident unfolded Wednesday, Oct. 9 just before 11 a.m. 

According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office, a person in a blue Ford Fusion fired one round into another vehicle, a gray Toyota Tundra. 

The Tundra was struck on the front passenger side door. 

The driver of the Tundra was not injured. 

Witnesses, according to officials, reported a road rage incident between the two vehicles before the shooting. 

The suspect vehicle was located and a traffic stop was conducted on Port Washington Road. The suspect, identified as a 21-year-old from Milwaukee, was arrested and charged with first-degree reckless endangering safety, discharging a firearm from a vehicle on highway, and possession of THC -- his second offense. 

A firearm was located in the vehicle. 

I-43 northbound was closed for a short time while authorities investigated the scene. 

The incident remains under investigation.
