MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- On Monday, Lt. Col. Jay Wilson was gifted a service dog from Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff, Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation, and the Custom Canines.
Lt. Col. Wilson said it was a monumental day for him and his family after he lost his comfort dog, Sadie, months ago.
"This was an awesome surprise, you know, I knew I was coming out here today. I wasn't expecting to get a service dog," said Lt. Col. Wilson.
Wilson answered the call of duty for over 20 years for the Wisconsin Army National Guard and the U.S Army Reserves. He said he has suffered with back issues and PTSD.
The Wilson family not only received Frosty, the service dog, but were also gifted a signed baseball and a $5,000 check.
"You know, they go overseas, and they lay their lives on the line for us to just be able to play the game of baseball -- so it's unbelievable and it's always really cool to see," said Woodruff.
The Wilson family was invited to throw the first pitch come September.
