RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A group that helps Wisconsin's veteran community got a big boost on Friday, March 24.
Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin in Racine received a check for $40,000 from the Sons of the American Legion Post 294 which is based in Hartland.
The group raised the money during an outside sleepover back in February.
"This is a way for me to serve our veterans now. Because I didn't serve when I was younger, I had a father who served in WWII, a brother in the Air Force, another brother who was in the Army. They both retired, since I didn't serve this allows me to serve our community and our veterans and helping them get the help they need once they get home," said Mark Pape, Cmdr., Sons of the American Legion Post 294.
The Sons of the American Legion are already planning another outdoor sleepover fundraiser for next February.
