MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A balloon release was held to honor the life of a 4-year-old boy who was shot and killed Sunday, Feb.18.

Family of Jamero Edwards gathered outside Bradley Townhomes and Apartments on Milwaukee's far north side to honor their loved one on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

Family of the 4-year-old told CBS 58 the gun that shot toddler belonged to his mom.

They say the gun was in the child's mother's purse when another child in the home took it out and shot Edwards.

While this case is still under investigation by the Milwaukee Police Department, family said this incident has left them heartbroken and empty.

"Jamero had a voice that should have been on Disney channel, or something he was just so unique he just brought joy to everybody," said Tiara Edwards, mother of Jamero Edwards.

Edwards went on to say her son was her world.

"Jamero was just my light, he was everything to me even when I was down," said Tiara.

Edwards is the latest victim in a gun related death.

According to police just before 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Edward's was shot at an apartment complex near 64th and Bradley.

The toddler was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

Family close to the child told us three adults where in the apartment at the time of the shooting.

The adults said they were asleep and didn’t see the shooting.

"I dozed off, all I heard was 'pow', and I woke up, worst day of my life," said Tiara.

They told us it was a child who pulled the trigger.

The mother of that child did not want her face shown on camera, but she tells us exclusively the shooting was an accident.

"She's only six, she doesn’t remember she don’t know what happened, and my eyes was closed so I don’t know anything either," said the mother of the child who family said pulled the trigger.

MPD has not confirmed if Jamero was accidentally shot by the six- year-old. Possible charges have been referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
