A Cow-tastrophe: 200-pound fiber glass cow stolen from Jefferson County Fair Park
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It’s all quiet on the Jefferson County front on Friday morning, but a heaviness hangs in the air.
It’s a case of a missing fiber glass cow.
On Wednesday, Aug. 13, around 2:30 the Jefferson County Fair Park’s events manager, Abby Schopen, noticed what had happened.
“They way that it was taken off the trailer. It was unbolted from the base that was on a trailer,” said Schopen. “We had a huge rodeo. A three-day rodeo over the weekend.”
Clarabelle Dee Bovine, weighing in at 200 pounds and a presence at the county fair since the 1960s, was stolen from right under their nose.
“That cow has been hanging out ever since. It's attended every Jefferson County Fair Park we’ve had since then,” said Schopen. “She probably hitched a ride with another steer, or cow, or horse. Whoever did it, took some doing and it was more than one person.”
If you this think is just a moo-ving violation, think again. In a statement sent to CBS 58, the City of Jefferson Police Department wrote this is an “active investigation for felony theft as the estimated value of the cow is $2600.00.”
“I was mad. I was very upset. She’s very special to us,” said Schopen.
She says it’s a cowardly act, but she wants Clarabelle to know, Jefferson County won't give up until she’s home.
“If we show up tomorrow and she’s laying in the grass, we’ll be happy with that,” said Schopen. “We’re looking for you. Please hang in there. We love you.”
Anyone with information about the theft should reach out to the Jefferson Police Department.
