Vigil held for Milwaukee man killed by Columbus police officers

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- More than 100 people gathered on the corner of 17th and Vliet to hold a vigil for Samuel Sharpe Jr., identified by family as the man killed in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon.

Several officers in town for the RNC from Columbus, Ohio opened fire on the man after they say he refused to drop two knives and charged an unarmed man.

Local political activists made their voices heard Tuesday night, saying his death was a worst-case scenario.

Others at the vigil held signs demanding justice for Sharpe, while others wrote his name out in chalk to honor his memory.

Activists say the thousands of law enforcement officers from out of town in Milwaukee should remain within the RNC's perimeter.

They say Sharpe's death could have been prevented.
