MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Republican National Convention's set to start in just about 40 days in Milwaukee, but right now the Republican Party of Milwaukee County's short on volunteers, and they're running out of time to find more.

Right now, over 3,000 volunteers have signed up, but the Republican Party was hoping for around 4,000, leaving them about 700 volunteers short. They have only one more day to find volunteers. The deadline to sign up, because of background checks and such, is June 5.

"This is a unique opportunity," said Hilario Deleon, chairman, Republican Party of Milwaukee County.

Hilario Deleon, with the Republican Party of Milwaukee County, is looking for people who want to show the world the best of the Midwest, Milwaukee, with one final push.

"There will be people who will be stationed at the airport, greeting people who are flying in. People got to come through Mitchell Field. There will be people stationed at hotels helping people, guiding them, direction-finding," said Deleon.

Volunteers can sign up online right here. You don't have to live here, and you don't have to be a Republican. Meanwhile, build-out is now underway at Fiserv Forum.

"We're really, really excited to show off Wisconsin," said Rachel Reisner, 2024 RNC director of communications.

If you pass by Fiserv, you won't see any of the buildout that started Monday. All the work's taking place inside.

And here's our first look inside.

"Our team, our general contractor have moved into the building. It's definitely busy in there. We have, you know, hundreds of workers," said Reisner.

We can see the RNC logo is on a banner getting ready to be hung, and risers are ready to be placed.

"We retract seats, you know, if it has the logo currently, we'll change it to RNC branding. Kind of rearranging the seats to make sure there's enough floor for all delegates. Remember, we have over 2,500 delegates. From the stage to putting up the balloons. Remember, there are hundreds of thousands of balloons to get dropped, so all of that is taking place inside," said Reisner.

The main stage will be at Fiserv. Delegates and others will be within walking distance to other RNC activities at the Baird Center, Panther Arena and Miller High Life Theatre. So much to do, and it's all got to be done and ready to go by July 15.
