Voting taking place for Greater Milwaukee Black History Month art contest
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Original pieces of art that represent influential Black STEM icons are being voted on for UScellular's seventh annual Black History Month Art Contest alongside Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee.
The artwork was created by Boys & Girls Club members in January, featuring historical figures, world leaders, scientists and educators who have made significant contributions to the worlds of science, technology, engineering and math.
Voting is taking place online and is free. Clicking here will showcase the participants.
The finalists' artwork can also be viewed in four UScellular stores across Milwaukee:
- 3415 S. 27th St.
- 2145 Miller Park Way
- 544 E. Ogden Ave.
- 4138 N. 56th St.
One example of a participating piece of art is 'Ruby Bridges,' a piece that celebrates Ruby Neil Bridges Hall, the first African American child to desegregate William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana in 1960.
The top three vote-getters will be announced in March, with each winner being awarded gift cards: $250 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place.
