WALWORTH COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Walworth County Sheriff's Office has released the names of two people found dead in a house fire Saturday night.
Bradley Chapman, 58, and Sylvia Chapman, 83, were found on the second floor of a house on Highway 11 in the Town of Spring Prairie.
Resident Jean Barry was driving home the same night when she noticed the flames.
"The road was blacked off by the police and so, I pulled into the gas station and asked him [the officer] what was going on," said Barry. "He said 'it's your house.'"
The Walworth County Sheriff's Office says the top half of the house was engulfed arrived. On the second-floor, firefighters found the Chapman. The sheriff's office says firefighters attempted lifesaving measures but were unsuccessful. Barry says the Chapmans were mother and son.
"Oh, gosh. Of course I'm very sad. I mean, you know, it's life taken."
As for her unit in the duplex, Barry says the damage is extensive. She says she's staying with her daughter for the time being.
"I had a lot of smoke damages and a lot of water damage. The actual flame and burning was pretty much upstairs," said Barry.
Barry says she's just thankful to be safe.
"It was a tragedy. There's nothing to do now but to go forward and you know, get on with life," said Barry.
The Walworth County Sheriff's Office says this is an open investigation.
