MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The city of Milwaukee is continuing to make our waterways safer.
WATERSAFE MKE installed the first lifesaving floatation device along the Milwaukee River on Wednesday, April 10.
Those who see a person in distress will be able to grab the life ring and throw it in the water.
The initiative comes after Milwaukee's Fire and Police Commissioner LaNelle Ramey lost his stepson in 2020.
Now, he's making sure that it doesn't happen again.
"I don't want anyone to feel this. And that's the purpose," said Ramey.
The life ring is the first of several going along the water way.
