Waukesha County officials investigating in-custody death at Milwaukee County Jail

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 49-year-old Shorewood man died at a hospital after experiencing a medical emergency while in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail, according to officials.

Shorewood police booked the man into the jail Friday, March 14 on three criminal charges.

A Wellpath nurse reportedly observed him in distress Monday, March 17 and initiated emergency protocols, including NARCAN deployment. The man was transported first to one area hospital, and then another, where he died Tuesday, March 18.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement in which they extended condolences to the man’s family and stated that it would be in accordance with Wisconsin law in not investigating itself. Instead, the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation.
