‘We're out here burning up’: Multiple Milwaukee County pools remain closed as temps heat up
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- This summer, multiple pools across Milwaukee County remain closed as the heat continues.
According to Milwaukee County Parks, Hales Corners' pool and the McCarty Park pool will not open this summer due to budget constraints and necessary maintenance work.
Hales Corners' pool has been closed every summer since 2020.
“It’s been very tough seeing this pool closed for the seventh straight year," Hales Corners resident Donald Schwartz said. “It’s unacceptable, this pool should be open.”
Schwartz and other residents living nearby have fought to keep the pool open for over two decades.
“They don’t alternate the pools. We should be open once in a while and we’re not -- seven straight years,” Schwartz said.
Across the county, Washington Park pool also remains closed this summer.
“It’s like almost 100 degrees out here, you know what I’m saying? It’s ridiculous, it’s sad,” Milwaukee resident Jarryl Cloyd said. “We're out here burning up, we gotta figure out, we gotta look up other places to go.”
The parks department is working on a new splash pad project for Washington Park, but as of now, the park is dry.
“It’s really about the kids, ya know, the adults wanna have fun too, but the kids, come on now. It’s almost 100 degrees outside, that’s ridiculous,” Cloyd said.
