West Allis Fire Department: 11 people displaced after attic catches fire in home near 56th and Greenfield

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A total of 11 people are being assisted by the Red Cross after a fire broke out in a 2 1/2 story duplex in West Allis.

The fire was reported around 5:15 p.m. on Thursday.

According to the fire department, the eight children and three adults were able to make it safely out of the duplex.

When crews arrived on the scene, smoke was seen coming from the attic of the home.

The fire was under control within 10 minutes.

The cause remains under investigation.

There is an estimated total of $20,000 in damages done to the house.
