West Allis Police Department WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) — A West Allis police officer has been placed on administrative suspension after being charged with a felony related to an alleged excessive use of force incident.
Court records show 32-year-old Anton W. Best is charged with one count of misconduct in public office - acting in excess of lawful authority, stemming from an incident in Brookfield in January 2026.
The West Allis Police Department confirmed to CBS 58 that it became aware of an on-duty use of force incident involving Best at the end of a vehicle pursuit in Brookfield.
According to the department, an initial internal review determined the use of force did not appear to be consistent with Wisconsin guidelines or department policies and training.
The West Allis Police Department requested that the Brookfield Police Department conduct an independent investigation. After completing its investigation, Brookfield police referred the case to the Waukesha County District Attorney's Office for review.
Best has been on administrative duty since the investigation began. Following the filing of criminal charges, he has now been placed on administrative suspension.
According to court records, Best is scheduled to make his initial court appearance at 8:15 a.m. on July 30.
A conviction for misconduct in public office - acting in excess of lawful authority, a Class I felony, carries a maximum penalty of 3½ years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
