Wildfire smoke retreats now but may return Sunday

Air quality has been a big issue the last few days. In fact, Wednesday southeast Wisconsin had the worst air quality in the Nation. The high particulate matter counts are as a result of smoke from wildfires in Manitoba and Saskatchewan getting caught up aloft and dragged through our area on the jet stream. But finally those numbers are improving for air quality.

All communities across southern Wisconsin are now out of unhealthy levels. So, we can quite literally breathe a sigh of relief. For now. Moving forward what we're watching is a cold front progressing across Canada at this time. This boundary will sweep through our area Sunday. This could send more smoke back to the surface resulting in poorer air quality once again at some point Sunday.

This front will also bring a chance for storms, mainly in the afternoon hours.
