Will Taylor Swift's endorsement have an impact in Wisconsin?
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Taylor Swift's surprised endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris has some voters wondering just how big of an impact could it have in key swing states like Wisconsin.
Political experts say T-Swifts endorsement could matter especially in battleground states that are likely to decide the presidential race.
“A Taylor Swift endorsement may reach younger voters," said Burden. “The other reason it might matter is the media environment has become so disassembled that campaigns have a hard time reaching all the pockets of voters."
"There are people who are really tuned in entertainment and not to politics and this is maybe a way for a candidate to sneak in and get some eyeballs at least for a moment.”
In a very highly polarized world, celebrity endorsements overall don't have as strong of an impact they once did.
"The bottom line is people don't want to be told who to vote for,” said David Paleologes, Director, Suffolk University Political Research Center. “Overall, celebrities would like to think they could influence voter behavior, but they are more valuable as fundraising tools and door opening opportunities to their followers.”
On Election Day most voters know who they’re going to vote for, but in the month and weeks leading up, some are still undecided.
Experts say Swift could sway some voters who are unsure who to vote for, but the pop superstar also encouraged her supports on Instagram to "research" the candidates to make up their mind.
