Window Select to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

NOW: Window Select to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- CBS 58 spent months sharing complaints last year from customers unhappy with home improvement company Window Select.

Now, there's word that after hundreds of complaints, the company could be headed for bankruptcy.

Customers tell CBS 58 they received calls from a third-party representing Window Select, informing them that the company plans to file for bankruptcy this month.

CBS 58 was also sent a letter that went out to some customers about the bankruptcy, while others said they still haven't heard anything from the company.

"We live in a really old house with really old windows and now we're having to go through our second winter with plastic on every single window," said Tiffany Petty, an Oconomowoc woman still waiting for windows from the company.

Petty says it's been more than 15 months since her family paid Window Select a down payment of $7,500.

"We can barely even get a hold of anybody. We've sent countless emails and have heard nothing back," she said.

CBS 58 stopped by Window Select's main office in Menomonee Falls and there's no sign of the company there anymore. All signage has been removed and it appears they've cleared out of the space.

This comes as customers say they're being told the company is headed for bankruptcy this month. There haven't been any official court filings made yet, but some customers told CBS 58 they've been informed that the company is preparing to enter Chapter 11 bankruptcy to protect itself from creditors and re-organize the business.

"Maybe there's still hope that we may get our windows and the other part of me is just, we're so fed up," said Petty.

The company is expected to file for Chapter 11 by Jan. 23, according to a notice some customers received.

"At this point we don't even know what we can believe, and we don't know who to trust," said Petty. CBS 58 also heard from many customers who say they have not been informed of any updates from the company at all.

Window Select is still facing a mountain of legal issues through Wisconsin's court system.
At last check, there were 19 open cases against the company, filed between April 2022 and January 2023.

A criminal fraud investigation is also still ongoing. CBS 58 reached out to the company for comment and have not yet received a response.
