Winterfest, National Snow Sculpting Championship kicks off in Lake Geneva
LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- All the fun is happening in Lake Geneva this week.
Winterfest, and the 2022 U.S. National Snow Sculpting Championship, kicked off on Wednesday, Feb. 2.
For the sculpting competition, 15 teams are creating works of art from snow by Saturday afternoon.
These creatives are competing for the title at the 2022 U.S. National Snow Sculpting Championship.
Team Flozen is from Florida.
"We're not allowed to use power tools so they only tools we can use are these babies right here," Team Florida Captain Amanda Balduc said.
Each sculpture is judged by its creativity, technique and its message.
This year, they're building a woman's face on a pagoda -- an Asian inspired tower.
"There's so much going on and we just wanted to do a beautiful piece so people can forget about what's going on in this world," she said.
The trio got second place last year.
Topped by none other than Team Wisconsin -- whose current piece revolves around love and connection.
"With everything that's politicized, all the division that's in the world this is about coming together and getting over that," Team Wisconsin Captain Joshua Jakubowki.
Aside from these sculptures, there's also a downtown ice sculpture tour.
And on Friday and Saturday, enjoy bonfires and smores on the beach.
"Oh my goodness, it really is just a party atmosphere," VISIT Lake Geneva President/CEO Stephanie Klett said.
But if being outside isn't your thing, there is plenty of indoor excitement.
"We have igloos throughout this whole region. So, you can have a hot chocolate, you can heave great food and you can still look at winter without feeling like winter."
Winterfest runs through Sunday, Feb. 6.
