MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Tax scams, involving people impersonating IRS or CRA officials to solicit money or personal information, are an ongoing threat, according to the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau.
The organization says that the scammers often target unsuspecting individuals with threats of arrest or offers of bogus tax refunds, with methods like phone calls and phishing emails to carry out their schemes.
Jim Timmer, President of the Wisconsin BBB, joined us on Monday, Feb. 5 to discuss the need for public awareness and vigilance against t tax scams. He advised filing taxes early and securing an IRS Identity Protection PIN as effective strategies against these fraudulent activities, among other tips.
