WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- State election officials are asking the Wisconsin Supreme Court to decide a legal dispute over a name on the presidential ballot.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission has asked justices to decide the fate of whether Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s name can be removed from the November ballot.
Kennedy filed an appeal Wednesday after a Dane County judge ruled state law doesn't allow a candidate to pull out of the race unless they die.
State election officials have stressed how difficult it would be to remove Kennedy's name because they say some voters already have their ballot.
"The importance of voters being able to cast uninformed ballots, right? If I get one ballot and my neighbor gets a different ballot, that's a problem," said Ann Jacobs, Wisconsin Elections Commission chair.
Kennedy's attorneys have argued clerks could use stickers to cover up his name, but officials say that would create headaches, including the possibility of jamming their machines.
