Wisconsin vinyl album collection for sale, including thousands of records
MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Thousands of historic vinyl albums that captured the sound of Wisconsin during the 1960s are now available for sale to the public, all to benefit a Wisconsin nonprofit.
The records are from the personal collection of Jim Kirchstein, an electric engineer and founder of Cuca Records in Sauk City. The small studio recorded thousands of songs and records by musicians either from Wisconsin or with ties to Wisconsin up until the 1970s.
The Kirchstein family chose to donate Jim's beloved collection of around 45,000 records to Agrace, a nonprofit healthcare organization, which set up a pop-up shop in Madison to sell the records with profits set to go toward providing hospice care, supportive care, senior care and grief support to people who are aging, ill or dying in southern Wisconsin.
Judy Kerr, the retail manager for Agrace, says that music lovers from throughout the state are excited about being able to dig through the collection.
"It's a huge quantity of people, a lot of people coming through the store. Still lots of records left to sell, but similar to the last time we did a vinyl sale, it creates a lot of traffic. Yesterday, we had people from Milwaukee, people from Appleton, so the word is out."
The records are being sold for only $2 each at Agrace's pop-up sale runs daily from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. through Dec. 10, or as long as supplies last. The sale is taking place at Agrace's Thrift Home Store in Madison at 1946 S. Stoughton Rd.
