MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a report of an assault on Saturday, Sept. 7, where an unknown suspect assaulted a 21-year-old.

CBS 58 spoke with Niyah Jones, who identified herself as the woman who was assaulted. She told us she got off of work around 9 p.m. on Saturday and walked into Jack's Liquor near 50th and Hampton to get a quick snack.

She says she never could have imagined that a man would approach her and hit her in the head and run out of the store. The assault was recorded on surveillance video inside the business.

“I was scared, I was anxious," Niyah Jones said, relieved she didn't suffer from serious injuries as a result of the assault.

Niyah Jones' mother, LaToya Jones, said she is heartbroken this happened to her daughter. Both the mother and victim don't know the man who hit her inside the business.

“It’s just one of those things a parent, No one wants to see their daughter, or their son go through for even that matter," LaToya Jones said.

This family is aiming to share the video to let people know that the man who assaulted Niyah Jones is still out there.

“Talk to your nephew. Talk to your son. Talk to your cousin. Talk to your neighbor, because something like this shouldn’t happen to young girls out here," LaToya Jones said.

This is an ongoing investigation and Milwaukee police are seeking and unknown suspect. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Milwaukee Police Department at (414) 935-7360 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-Tips or P3 Tips.
