Wrong-way driver arrested, officer injured in New Berlin squad car crash

NEW BERLIN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 57-year-old New Berlin man was taken into custody after allegedly driving the wrong way on Moorland Rd. and colliding with a police squad car, according to New Berlin police.

The crash reportedly happened when the man was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes near Cleveland Ave. The officer, a five-year veteran of the department, attempted to avoid the vehicle but struck another car in the process.

NBPD says the officer sustained a broken finger and was treated at a hospital before being released.

The wrong-way driver remained at the scene and was arrested for operating while intoxicated causing injury.

Authorities believe alcohol may have contributed to the crash.
