Wrong-way driver causes fatal crash in Dane County

DUNN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Dane County Sheriff's deputies responded to a fatal crash in the Town of Dunn on Saturday, Sept. 11.

It happened around 10:39 p.m. on USH 51, north of Lake Kegonsa Road.

Officials say a Toyota Camry with one occupant was speeding northbound in the southbound lane. A Dodge Durango traveling in the southbound lane swerved into the ditch to avoid the oncoming vehicle.

The Toyota Camry continued north in the southbound lanes and struck a Hyundai Elantra head on. This caused the Hyundai Elantra to roll several times before coming to a rest on its roof.

A fourth vehicle, a Honda Accord, was traveling on the roadway and avoided the initial crash, but was struck on the windshield by flying debris.

The 39-year-old male driver of the Toyota Camry was airlifted with serious injuries. The 47-year-old female driver of the Hyundai Elantra was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers and occupants of the other two cars were uninjured.
