'You can’t kill rock and roll': Milwaukee remembers Ozzy Osbourne
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Music legend Ozzy Osbourne died on Tuesday at the age of 76, just weeks after a farewell show.
“I still get kids, and then people who are in their 70s, buying Ozzy,” Record Head manager and buyer Aletamarie Kelliher said. “He was just a pioneer.”
Osbourne performed in Milwaukee several times over the years, including a trip to the MECCA arena in December of 1988.
Milwaukee native Steve Sutheimer was 14 in 1988 and got a chance to go to the concert after a friend couldn’t go.
“He had to sell the ticket, and I was there with the money, and the rest was history. I had the tickets, smiling ear to ear,” Sutheimer said. “Thanks, Eric!”
Sutheimer says they were not allowing cameras in the MECCA at the time of the concert, but he still found a way to capture Osbourne.
“I took a chance anyway, and I actually taped it to my leg to sneak in,” Sutheimer said. “I’d just sneak a shot every now and then and made sure no one would see me.”
Sutheimer captured several pictures of Osbourne and still has a couple over 30 years after the concert.
“Those of us that were into this kind of music, we had Ozzy, and we never thought the day would come,” Sutheimer said. “You can’t kill rock and roll.”
