12,000 trees to be planted in northern Wisconsin, thanks to Bucks' Trees for Threes program

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- There was a ceremonial tree planting indoors Wednesday, at Modine Manufacturing's Racine campus. And if you're wondering why Milwaukee Bucks mascot Bango was there, it's because this symbolized the success of this year's Trees for Threes program.

Modine, with the help of the Arbor Day Foundation, is supporting the planting of 18 trees for each three-point basket made by the Bucks at Fiserv Forum this past season.

For Bucks president Josh Glessing, this was kind of a personal ceremony.

"When I found out we were doing this, I was incredibly excited," Glessing said. "I grew up 50 yards from where I'm standing right now -- 1633 Packard Avenue. This is the epitome of my community."

"When you think of engineering a cleaner and healthier world, which is a fundamental, foundational principal that Modine lives by every day, and you connect it with things like air quality, you can certainly see how planting trees helps us in that mission," said Jesse Nickrand, of Modine.

Twelve-thousand trees will be planted through the Trees for Threes program -- approximately 18 for each of the Bucks' 663 three-pointers.

They'll be planted throughout the Bayfield County Reforestation Project just south of Lake Superior in northern Wisconsin.
