MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 13-year-old boy arrested in connection to the shooting death of a 11-year-old will remain in secure detention.

Last week, Milwaukee police responded to a call near 68th and Silver Spring. Police say 11-year-old Deon Sargent died as a result of a robbery. A 13-year-old was arrested in connection to that shooting. CBS 58 is not naming him because he is a minor.

Prosecutors say the 13-year-old told detectives he wasn’t thinking and stated he thought it wouldn’t be a struggle to take the gun from Sargent. The court commissioner stated she had concerns about the 13-year-old’s safety as well as the safety of community members and that he would remain in secure detention.

The court commissioner said in this case one young child had a firearm and the other child took advantage of it. The commissioner stated this incident shows the inherent danger of firearms in the possession of children.

In court, Sargent's mom spoke, stating she didn’t know how Sargent obtained the gun.

A plea hearing is scheduled for next month.
