2 children rescued from basement during house fire in Racine

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine Fire Department responded to a house fire on Sunday, March 3. 

It happened around 3:34 a.m. near Washington and Virginia. 

The fire department said there was smoke coming from the rear of the house upon arrival. Two children were rescued from the basement by firefighters through an egress window. One child exited the home on their own. The fire department says an exterior and interior fire attack was performed, and the home was searched for residents and pets. 

One adult and three children were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. No injuries occurred to fire personnel. 

The Racine Fire Department says working smoking alarms were not present in the home, and one carbon monoxide alarm was found. 

The estimated damage for the structure is $85,000. The estimated damage for the contents is $18,000.
