2 people, dog dead following house fire in Brookfield, three officers taken to hospital

BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Two people and a dog are dead after a fire broke out a home in Brookfield during the morning hours of Sat. Feb. 28.

The Brookfield Fire Department says they were called out to the scene near Memory Lane and Brookdale Drive at around 7:13 a.m. 

Upon arrival, crews battled heavy fire conditions and immediately began search and rescue operations. 

Firefighters say they located two people and a dog inside the home. Crews took one person to Froedtert Hospital, where they later died.

The second person and dog were pronounced dead at the scene. 

Three police officers also sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital. No firefighters were injured.

The Brookfield Fire and Police Departments are working with the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigations - State Fire Marshal's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

At this time, officials do not believe the fire is a result of criminal activity. 

The names of the victims have not been released at this time.
